Despite changes to their regional areas, the Blues and Chiefs are considered to be the same team from year-to-year.
Ratings for Transvaal and the Cats are combined. Ratings for Natal and the Sharks are combined. Ratings for Northern Transvaal, Northern Bulls and the Bulls are combined. Ratings for Western Province and the Stormers are combined.
Ratings for Orange Free State (1997) were carried over to the Cheetahs (2006).
